Michael Edwards rejects Liverpool return after Jurgen Klopp exit

Former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards has rejected the chance to return to Anfield and help rebuild the club in the wake of Jurgen Klopp's upcoming departure. Klopp and his backroom staff will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, while Jorg Schmadtke, the current sporting director, will walk away at the end of the January transfer window. With Liverpool in need of major surgery away from the pitch, Fabrizio Romano revealed the Reds have been in contact with Edwards to try and tempt him to return to the club. Edwards was given the chance to lead the restructuring process at Liverpool but is understood to have turned down the proposal. Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to Liverpool training before Leicester clash

Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders has confirmed that right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is back in training after shaking off a hamstring injury. Alexander-Arnold limped out of the 3-0 win over Aston Villa at the start of September and has missed the team's last three Game s in all com Pet itions, as well as the international break with England. Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday when they face Leicester City in the Carabao Cup third round, before which Lijnders revealed Alexander-Arnold is inching closer to a return. "Trent trained [on Monday] with us but it was just in the rondo and the ball possession with the counter-pressing, but he was outstanding," Lijnders told a press conference.
