Christopher Nkunku's injury has derailed Chelsea's season - Mauricio Pochettino must be braver to fix things

As Chelsea fans hoped heading into the campaign, Christopher Nkunku has had a huge hand in the Blues' fortunes so far this season - just not for the reasons anyone had wished. 12 months of anticipation culminated in the announcement of his £52m arrival from RB Leipzig during summer and Nkunku wasted little time entertaining supporters during pre- season . He featured in five Game s, scored three goals and appeared to be dragging everyone around him to higher heights. Then he got injured. Nkunku went down with a knee injury early in a draw with Borussia Dortmund and is not expected to return to the pitch until the very end of this calendar year or, perhaps more likely, the start of 2024. The injury is obviously an enormous blow for Chelsea and one which has had a catastrophic impact on literally everything at Stamford Bridge. Francesco Bagnaia bounced back to prove critics wrong with victory in the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix. Back-to-back grand prix crashes for Bagnaia had resumed doubts about his ability to handle pressure, but the Ducati rider brushed those aside at Jerez with his second main race victory of the season. He now leads the championship again by 22 points heading to France, while KTM emerged from Jerez celebrating double podiums in the grand prix and the sprint to perhaps begin a genuine title challenge in 2023. Yamaha and Honda continued to battle their inferior machinery, while FIM stewarding overshadowed everything as several penalty calls drew unified criticism. Elsewhere, an old star returned to remind the world just why he is one of MotoGP’s best, while a new initiative from the FIM and Dorna Sports aims to improve gender equality in motorcycle racing.
