Andreas Ulmer was on a pleasant stroll through Salzburg with his dog and newborn baby when a car blaring operatic music screeched into earshot. It was the day before Ulmer's RB Salzburg side began their Champions League campaign at home to Genk in September 2019 and Erling Haaland was getting in the zone. Sat in his car, the then teenager was rocking out to the Champions League anthem at full volume. Within two minutes of Haaland's debut in the competition, he scored his first goal. Suffice to say, it was not his last. How many goals has Erling Haaland scored in the 2022/23 Champions League? Voters in Kuwait are heading to the polls for a third time in as many years, with little hope of ending prolonged gridlock between the ruling family and assertive lawmakers DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Voters in Kuwait were casting ballots on Tuesday for a third time in as many years, with little hope of ending a prolonged gridlock between the ruling family and assertive lawmakers after the judiciary dissolved the legislature earlier this year. Kuwait is alone among Gulf Arab countries in having a democratically elected assembly that exerts some checks on the ruling family. But in recent years, the political system has been paralyzed by infighting and unable to enact even basic reforms. “People on the ground are not very optimistic right now about change, and that’s why you see this frustration and probably a low voter turnout and low number of people running,” said Dania Thafer, executive director at the Gulf International Forum, a Washington-based think-tank. The polls will close...

A federal bankruptcy judge has ordered Diamond Sports to pay the full value of its media contracts to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Guardians, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers A federal bankruptcy judge has ordered Diamond Sports to pay the full value of its media contracts to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Guardians, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers. Judge Christopher Lopez made the ruling on Thursday in Houston. Diamond Sports, which owns 19 networks under the Bally Sports banner, has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the Southern District of Texas since it filed in March. Diamond said in a financial filing last fall it had debt of $8.67 billion. In April, the judge ruled Diamond to pay half of what the teams were owed in rights fees. “I think the contract rate is the right answer here,” said Lopez in issuing his decision after two marathon days of testimony. Major League Baseball said in a statement Thursday night: “MLB appreciates the ruling from the Feder...

NATO is ramping up pressure on member nation Turkey to drop its objections to Sweden's membership OSLO, Norway -- NATO on Thursday ramped up pressure on member nation Turkey to drop its objections to Sweden's membership as the military organization seeks to deal with the issue by the time U.S. President Joe Biden and his counterparts meet next month. The 31-member alliance is also looking at boosting Ukraine’s non-member status in NATO and preparing a framework for security commitments that it can offer once the war with Russia is over. Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO wants to bring Sweden into the fold by the time allied leaders meet in Lithuania on July 11-12. The allies also hope to make progress on long-term funding and the security plan for Ukraine at the same event, Stoltenberg said. He said the allies continue to agree that Ukraine will become a NATO member one day but that in the meantime the alliance should provide it with security commitments and substa...

After beating Bayer Leverkusen in the semifinals, Roma can be confident of thwarting Sevilla, too. A cagey game looks likely and that could mean a long night at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. Roma may be able to grind out a victory, but it could require extra time and even penalties to split the teams. Fo...
