Final Fantasy 14 Omega Ultimate First Clear Was Done With Plugins, Sparking Controversy

The Omega Protocol has been beaten. Final Fantasy 14's newest and toughest raid arrived just two weeks after the arrival of update 6.3, "Gods Revel, Lands Tremble," and as is the case with the Game's hardest content, it's taken days for players to grind their way through the raid.

That grind came to an end for team UNNAMED_ at 3:34 JST today as they claimed the title of world's first completion of The Omega Protocol. However, their claim was almost immediately met with controversy after a video surfaced that seemed to show the team's Dragoon player using plugins.

THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

As you can see in the video, the Dragoon player is able to zoom out their camera far further than Final Fantasy 14 normally allows--a sure sign that a plugin is being used. Plugins are against FF14's terms of service, with Game director Naoki "Yodhi-P" Yoshida warning players after a similar instance of plugins being used in a world's first raid "will have their accounts suspended or permanently banned for repeat offenses."

Shortly after the video appeared online, UNNAMED_ offered a confession confirming the use of plugins. The video itself was allegedly leaked from the Dragoon player's personal YouTube account where "unusual login activity" has been reported.

Yoshida addressed the growing controversy directly in a statement made to the Final Fantasy 14 website.

"We are aware of information that is being spread regarding the use of third-party tools within The Omega Protocol (Ultimate)—we are conducting an investigation on the matter, including reviewing reports we have received, as well as self-confessions and other information," wrote Yoshi-P. "In the event that we confirm the use of third-party tools through this investigation, we will enact penalties such as temporary account suspension or permanent account bans to those involved."

Square Enix will not publicize players punished for using plugins. Fans are also calling for an investigation into UNNAMED_’s first clear of Pandæmonium: Abyssos: The Eighth Circle (Savage).

"If the illicit use of third-party tools is made clear through our investigations," Yoshi-P added, "I, at the very least, will not recognize that team as the true World First."
